Timeline of events

On September 29 1994, the Joint Accident Investigation Commission (JAIC) was formed for the investigation of the capsizing of the passenger vessel MV Estonia. The final report of the commission was presented in 1997.  

In 2020, new information about the wreck of MV Estonia was published in a Discovery Network film. Estonia, Finland and Sweden agreed to begin new investigation of the shipwreck and the surrounding seabed. The preliminary assessment was carried out in 2021 and the main survey is planned for 2022.
